1st ACTRIS intercomparison workshop of chemical ionization mass spectrometry to measure condensable vapors

Place: Tropos, Leipzig, Germany

Time: February 27th - March 10th, 2023 (NEW DATES!)

Organizers: University of Helsinki (ACTRIS Centre for Reactive Trace Gases In Situ Measurements - CiGas) and TROPOS (OrGanic Tracers and Aerosol Constituents - Calibration Centre, OGTAC-CC of CAIS-ECAC)

What we offer:

a) 2-weeks of chamber experiments including alpha-pinene oxidation, NOx dependency and sulfuric acid runs. The exact plan depends on the interests of the participants.

b) intercomparison between different instruments participating to the workshop giving more insight of the transmission and sensitivity of the instruments

Due to space limitations, we may need to restrict the number of participants. The participants need to cover their own costs (sending of instruments, possible travel & accommodation costs).

ACTRIS Cloud Remote Sensing Workshop May 2022

The ACTRIS Centre for Cloud Remote Sensing (CCRES) is organizing a workshop on two half-days during May 3rd and May 5th (9h00-12h30). 

Please don't hesitate to send us your proposal for a Cloud Remote Sensing scientific or technical topic (session 4, on May 5th)! Propositions of presentation for this session are open to all of the CRS community. Contributions will take the form of a short 10 minutes presentation followed by 5 minutes discussion.

ACTRIS NOx/VOC QA workshop

The ACTRIS calibration center for reactive trace gas in situ measurements (CiGas) invites you to the annual CiGas QA workshop for finalizing NOx and VOC data before submission to EBAS. The workshop will take place 27.-29. April 2022 as an online meeting. The first day will be related to VOCs; on the second day we have planned some general sessions and scientific talks; the third day will be related to NOx. Information on the links and an update of the schedule will be sent some days in advance of the meeting.

Please let Ralf Tillmann (r.tillmann@fz-juelich.de) know by April 11th if you participate and on which days.

Furthermore, for the scientific talks, if you have interesting results of campaigns, new instruments or other findings, this would be an excellent chance to show it to the community. So please send Stefan Reimann (Stefan.Reimann@empa.ch) the title of the talk.

1st Reactive Trace Gas In-Situ Community Workshop

The ACTRIS calibration center for reactive trace gas in situ measurements (CiGas) organizes a workshop for the community of National Facilities (NF) using reactive trace gas in situ measurement techniques. The focus of the workshop is to present and discuss the general requirements and measurement guidelines for ACTRIS reactive trace gas in-situ measurements. PIs of the future NFs are invited to participate, together with their teams. NFs are asked to provide a two-minute presentation of their individual NF reactive trace gas in situ measurement activities/plans.

CCRES Workshop

The Scientific and technical workshops geared towards the cloud remote sensing community are necessary to keep the community at the forefront of scientific and technical knowledge, through sharing of expertise and promotion of collaboration between participants. These workshops allow the CCRES consortium to receive feedback from ACTRIS National Facilities and external users about the support and services provided, and to learn about new developments and methods that have been tested by the community. The CCRES 2021 Workshop is the fourth CCRES workshop and was held online on the 21st September 2021.

Measurement of nitrogen oxides November 24th, 2 pm UTC

Nitrogen oxides (NOx), the sum of nitrogen monoxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), play a central role in atmospheric chemistry. Nitrogen oxides form in the atmosphere during lightning strikes or during microbial processes in soils. The main part, however, is anthropogenic during combustion processes, with traffic being the main cause of nitrogen oxides. Although NO2 concentrations are decreasing, it is a still hazardous air pollutant in many parts of the world.

Consequently, there is a need to monitor nitrogen oxides. This is acknowledged in the World Meteorological Organization Global Atmospheric Watch Program.

In this lecture, I will give an overview of the diurnal and seasonal cycles of nitrogen oxides and on the factors the govern the observed mixing ratios. In the second part measurements, techniques of nitrogen oxides will be introduced.
