Recap of the ACTRIS Science Conference 2026
Published: 27, April, 2026
The ACTRIS Science Conference 2026 recently held its second in-person edition in Oslo, Norway, bringing together researchers, students, industry representatives, and atmospheric science experts from around the world.
Building on the success of its inaugural in-person edition, the ACTRIS Science Conference 2026, further strengthened its role as a platform for scientific exchange, innovation, and meaningful connections across the atmospheric science community. Here are some of the highlights from the second edition.
A growing international community
From 20 to 23 April 2026, the ACTRIS Science Conference welcomed 365 participants from 26 countries to Oslo, Norway. Structured around five scientific themes, the conference provided a space to discuss atmospheric composition, air quality, climate interactions, and emerging challenges in atmospheric research.
The strong international participation reflected the growing importance of the conference as a meeting point for researchers working across disciplines and highlighted the role of ACTRIS in connecting expertise across countries and scientific communities.

A dynamic scientific programme
The scientific programme featured keynote speakers, plenary sessions, oral presentations, and two poster sessions covering a broad range of atmospheric research topics. A total of 340 abstracts were submitted, resulting in 108 oral presentations and 200 posters. The programme encouraged knowledge sharing and engaging discussions, providing participants with the opportunity to present their latest findings, exchange ideas, and build new scientific connections. The poster sessions in particular fostered dialogue among attendees, creating valuable opportunities for feedback, discussion, and networking across disciplines and career stages.

Building connections beyond science
Beyond the scientific programme, participants had the opportunity to connect through a cultural excursion to some of Oslo's most renowned museums, a conference dinner that brought together almost 300 attendees, and the ACTRIS 5K Run, which attracted nearly 70 participants. Together, these activities helped strengthen the sense of community that makes the ACTRIS Science Conference such a unique meeting point for the atmospheric science community.

Collaborative opportunities
The conference exhibition brought together 20 exhibitors and sponsors. Their participation facilitated dialogue and acknowledgment of the latest developments in atmospheric monitoring technologies and services. The exhibition area provided a valuable space for participants to discover new technologies, exchange ideas, and explore future partnerships between scientific and industrial stakeholders.

Supporting students and early careers.
This edition welcomed 64 students from across the international research community. Thanks to sponsorships, 12 students received financial support. The Early Career Investigator event provided a dedicated space for young researchers to connect, exchange experiences, and expand their professional networks.
The active participation of students and early-career researchers contributed to a dynamic and collaborative environment, reinforcing ACTRIS' commitment to supporting the next generation of atmospheric scientists.
Looking Ahead
Building on the success of its first in-person edition in 2024, the ACTRIS Science Conference 2026 further established itself as a key event for atmospheric research. By bringing together researchers, students, scientists, industry representatives, and stakeholders, the conference promoted knowledge exchange and strengthened international scientific networks.
As the ACTRIS scientific community continues to grow, future editions of the conference will continue to foster scientific excellence, encourage innovation, and support the collaborations needed to address some of the most significant atmospheric and environmental challenges of our time.
