Providentia: ACTRIS Data Analysis Tool Now Publicly Available

Providentia is an evaluation tool developed by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, for the in-depth analysis of observations, as well as colocated model output.

It has been specifically tailored to work with ACTRIS in-situ data, with the inbuilt feature to download and format ACTRIS data.

Providentia has a variety of different modes:

  • Dashboard: Interface for interactive evaluations.
  • Report: Create preset PDF reports.
  • Download: Automatically retrieve and format observational (e.g. ACTRIS) and model data (e.g. CAMS), from online sources.
  • Interpolation: Colocate model gridded output to observational facilities for direct comparison.
  • Library: Use all backend functions in external scripts and notebooks. This includes all previous functionalities, as well as more granular creation of statistics and plots, etc.

Providentia is accessible through the ACTRIS Data Portal services page and can be downloaded from GitHub.

An example ACTRIS use case for Providentia comparing with CAMS regional forecast data can be seen in the VRE.
