National Facilities

On 6 June 2025, a group of students aged 10 to 14 experienced science in action at the CNR-IMAA facilities in Tito Scalo, Italy. These young minds—many of whom face barriers to education—became scientists for a day through an engaging, hands-on initiative aimed at tackling educational poverty and boosting the socio-economic impact of research infrastructures.
ACTRIS staff at CNR-IMAA welcomed the students as part of an outreach activity organized under the CNR-led ITINERIS project, in collaboration with the University of Bari "Aldo Moro," local schools, social services, and third-sector organizations from Southern Salento. The day was filled with interactive science experiences that introduced students to atmospheric research in a fun and meaningful way.
Highlights of the Day:
- Weather Balloon Launches: A visually stunning and educational glimpse into atmospheric exploration.
- Laser Beam Experiments: Helping students uncover the mysteries of light and remote sensing.
- Scientific Team Games: Building collaboration skills and reinforcing scientific knowledge through play.
This event showcases how research infrastructures like ACTRIS can act as engines for social inclusion, offering opportunities that extend well beyond the scientific community. By opening doors to those traditionally excluded from science education, ACTRIS and its partners demonstrate their commitment to empowering the next generation.
A heartfelt thank you to all the organisers, educators, and participants who helped make this inspiring day possible!
