National Facilities

The annual two-day ACTRIS Data Centre Workshop convened on 5–6 June 2025 at Forskningsparken – Oslo Science Park, welcoming over 40 atmospheric data professionals, scientists, system developers, and modelers from various data center units, for an engaging programme of presentations, discussions and hands-on work.
Participants explored joint activities with the Norwegian climate-modelling user group, including portal enhancements, virtual research environment updates, and the recent impact of Canadian wildfires on European air quality and the signal detected at ACTRIS national facilities.
The Data Centre units then showcased their core data products before diving into small-group discussions on FAIR data implementation and AI-driven visualization workflows. The first day closed with rapid updates on collaborative projects and new proposal pipelines, capped by an informal networking evening and a dinner at Café Skansen on a rainy evening.
The second day focused on portal development and future roadmaps. The morning featured in-depth reviews of upcoming metadata schemas, dashboard statistics and THREDDS integration.
After a breakout workshop—splitting into an expert team refining the new metadata schema and the board assessing compliance with ACTRIS National Facility requirements—the group reconvened to formalize the 2025–2026 Data Expert Team and discuss integration pilots for EarthCARE aerosol and cloud products.
A wrap-up session confirmed autumn follow-up meetings and set clear next steps for community engagement, ensuring the momentum from Oslo carries forward.
The next face to face meeting for the full data centre team will be hosted by Barcelona Supercomputing Centre in Barcelona June 2025.
